The inspired, innovative, inimitable, irreverent

About Us

The Windsor Fringe is the second oldest fringe in the UK and was started in 1969 by a group of six , committed to starting a festival of the arts at affordable prices .The committee has always been totally voluntary, passionate about the Arts and annually we produce 8000 brochures, of our festival which are distributed locally. This offers an eclectic mix of the arts and entertainment: music & dance of all kinds, drama, visual arts (including photography and sculpture), film, poetry, informative walks and for the last five years, the support & promotion of the Culture of Soweto.

Major developments have been: our International Drama Writing Award , generously sponsored by Kenneth Branagh. This is its 14 th year and we are proud to be:

The Windsor Fringe Kenneth Branagh Award for New Drama Writing.

Our Award is International, having attracted nearly 3000 scripts from 37 countries, annually attracting hundreds of scripts for 30 minute one-act plays.

Our judges have been: Dame Hilary Mantel, Fay Weldon CBE, Kenneth Branagh, Nina Bawden CBE, Rosemary Squire OBE, Nell Dunn, Iqbal Khan, Nell Leyshon, Jenny Seagrove, Joanne Harris MBE, John Adams, Pete Gallagher, Alan Brodie and Sarah Wolf . All keen to promote new writing.

A further great success has been our Artists’ Open House scheme: local artists showing their work in Windsor homes and galleries.

The Fringe committee consists of a mixtures of professions: a retired G.P, two musicians, a clothes designer, a director of a local Tea Company, an actress, a chartered accountant, a social worker, a civil servant, an arts administrator, a Film Club organiser and a complementary therapist.
